Donut Breakfast Sandwich
Sugar, spice and everything nice, that’s what these sandwiches are made of. You can have it all in one sandwich (unless what you want is a healthy breakfast). The donut breakfast sandwich combines breakfast classics into a delicious mess. You have the soft, sweet donut, the gooey melted cheese and crispy bacon all topped with an egg. This might not be the sort of concoction you want to be scarfing down every morning (or maybe it is!) but it is definitely a fun thing to make with friends or family on the weekend. You’re going to have to use something to hold your breakfast sandwich together, why not fried dough? The recipe is simple and you can mix it up with cronuts, chocolate glazed, apple fritters!
2 slices bacon
1 slice american cheese
Slice and butter the donut. This recipe makes one sandwich but it is a so easy to make multiple. Place the donut(s) butter side down in a pan and lightly toast. Remove the donut halves and lie a slice of cheese on the bottom half so it can start melting.
Place bacon in a frying pan over medium heat. I used 2 slices per sandwich. Cook until crispy approximately 10 minutes. It’s a good idea to use crispy bacon for this because I found a regular glazed donut will become quite messy on it’s own, so it help to have bacon that’s easy to take a bite out of. If you are making a large batch of sandwiches feel free to cook bacon in the oven to save time. Set the oven to 450 and bake it for 14 minutes flipping at the halfway point. Once the bacon is cooked, set it on a paper towel until it is cool enough to handle. Cut the slice in half and lay on top the cheese
Remove excess grease and leave just enough to fry the egg in. Crack an egg into the pan and lower the heat to medium-low. Any kind of eggs will work in this sandwich so if you have a preference don’t feel limited to fried. Cook until the whites are set.
Lay the fried egg on top of the bacon and finish with the other donut half on top!
