10 Delicious Things to Try in Edinburgh

10 Delicious Things to Try in Edinburgh

When I think of countries I look forward to eating my way through, Scotland was not on the list before now. Their cuisine consists of a lot of haggis, whiskey, and *insert any starch here*. I took for granted how similar this is to comfort food. These are some of the dishes I would gladly eat again, but this time I would schedule a nap after every single one.

1. Bangers & Mash

If you only do one thing in Edinburgh it needs to be a visit to Mums for their Bangers & Mash. Any of their combinations will do. Sight seeing Shmight seeing, this is the only Loch Ness monster you need to worry about finding.

2. Cranachan

Mums Comfort Food for the win again. This is a delightfully simple dessert consisting of cream, honey, whiskey, oats, and berries. A nice reminder that a dessert doesn't have to be over the top to still hit your sweet spot.

3.Macaroni Pie

The Piemaker said "Hey, let's see what happens when we combine two of the best things ever." It went well.

4. Haggis Tower

It turns out I love Haggis. Who'd've thought. It's like a meaty rice pudding. Here it is served with some mush. Haggis, neeps (mashed turnips) & tatties (mashed potatoes) can be found at most scottish restaurants.

5. Whiskey Flight

6. Potato Scone

Potato Scones are more like potato flatbreads, but still delicious. Like any great carb, there are a number of ways you can eat it. My favorite was to take it home with some smoked salmon and make open face sandwiches.

7. Traditional Pasty

It's important to try "traditional" food especially when that food is pie.

8. Haggis Burrito

Are you weirded out by eating sheep's liver? Ease in with a burrito. Already comfortable eating organs? Eat the burrito anyway.
